Julie "CanineJulz" is an ABC-licensed professional dog trainer, serving the Del Mar, California community since 2010. Our founder understands that no two canines are the same, and offers many dog training classes designed to help pups and owners alike.
As a leading dog trainer, Julie uses her first-hand knowledge and experience to successfully provide the following training courses in Del Mar:
American Kennel Club (AKC) Training
AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program - This certified program includes both puppies and owners to learn various skills and behaviors. For owners, this training involves learning the responsibilities of dog ownership. These often include everything from obtaining a puppy ID to maintaining their overall health.
Canine Good Citizen - CGC is a training course that's open to dogs of all breeds. It's a ten-skill program that focuses on teaching dogs basic obedience, good manners, and owners responsible pet ownership. Its purpose is to strengthen the bond between you and your dog both at home and in public.
Community Canine - CC is the next level of AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) training. As with Canine Good Citizen, Community Canine also has a ten-skills test that pups must pass to complete this program. When finished, your dog earns a title that goes on their AKC title record.
Canine Urban - This is another AKC-certified program that requires dogs to demonstrate CGC skills in an urban setting. This includes entering and exiting buildings without pulling, walking through crowds on busy sidewalks, crossing the street, stopping at corners, and much more.
Scent Work - This ACK program involves training canines to mimic the behaviors of working detection dogs when locating specific scents (narcotics, explosives, etc.) Dogs learn to communicate with handlers when they've found the scent.
Therapy Dog International (TDI) Training
Therapy Dog - Therapy dogs are specially trained to provide comfort and support to people in hospitals, schools, and assisted living housing. Therapy dogs also make great companions for individuals with depression and anxiety.
Service Dog - Training a certified service dog requires specialty programs. These pups must undergo training courses designed to teach them to take specific action when a person with a disability needs their assistance. These tasks are directly related to the disability of their person.
Behavior Modification - This type of training differs from basic obedience classes. Behavior modification involves strategies designed to change undesirable or unhealthy behavior. It focuses on changing a dog's reaction to a person, situation, and other animals in positive and encouraging ways.
Obedience Training
Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Obedience - Dog obedience classes focus on basic obedient behaviors, addressing concerns, and teaching new skills. Much of obedience lessons involve correcting behavioral concerns like chewing, biting, barking, jumping, and digging. The goal of obedience training is to create a happy, healthy, and well-mannered dog.
Agility - Training courses for teaching your dog agility include directing your pup through obstacle courses while timed. Courses often include tunnels, seesaws, tire jumps, and weave poles.
At CanineJulz, our dog training classes are available for pups of all breeds, sizes, and ages. Julie is as comfortable training Chihuahuas and Yorkshire terriers as she is working with Mastiffs, Great Danes, and Saint Bernards!
